Perfect Girl by Michele Gorman

I loved this novel written by USA TODAY best selling author Michele Gorman. This book is the prequel to the very funny and charming novella Christmas Carol. I’m so pleased Michele has written more about Carol, I loved her in the novella. I was given an arc of Perfect Girl for an honest review.

Perfect Girl is available on kindle and paperback from today, amazon link:

Product Description (details from amazon)

Cinderella meets Falling Down in this wickedly funny tale about having it all

Carol is perfect… at least that’s what everyone thinks. In reality she’s sinking fast – her family treats her like their personal assistant and her boyfriend is so busy with work that he’s got her single-handedly running their relationship. Not that her job is any easier. As the only woman on the bank’s trading floor she spends twelve-hour days trying not to get sworn at or felt up by colleagues who put the “W” in banker.

How long can she go on pleasing everyone else before she snaps and loses it all?

With humor and empathy, Perfect Girl lays bare the balancing act that working women face in a man’s world

Carol is the perfect daughter, sister, girlfriend, friend, employee. If you need something, ask Carol! Life gets abit out of hand when Carol is pulled in all different directions. Carol needs to make a decision about how her life must change for the better. This book is funny, heartwarming, romantic and uplifting too with abit of girl power thrown in. Highly recommended read. For those that haven’t read the sequel novella please check out Christmas Carol, details below.

Quote from the product description on amazon regarding Christmas Carol … One winter wedding, two happy couples, three ex-boyfriends… And a very uncomfortable weekend.

This was the first book I had read by Michele Gorman. I really enjoyed it. What a predicament for someone to be in … Carol is Chief Bridesmaid at her sister’s wedding, which is set in a gorgeous house in Scotland at Christmas, but her sister forgets to tell her that she has not only invited one of Carol’s ex boyfriends to the wedding but three! Time for some awkward moments and revisiting of long forgotten emotions for Carol. The characters were written with such warmth and humour, there were some great funny moments.

I’ve loved both these books from Michele Gorman, great witty writing with likeable characters and a believable plot line. I will certainly look out for more from Michele.

Let them eat cake, bread and more … reviews of two Gluten-free cook books

The issue of food intolerance is an important one and can effect the whole family. Mealtimes, food shopping and parties can be inconvenient and hardwork. The two books I have reviewed below could be an answer to the prayers of food intolerance sufferers.

Is available to pre-order at amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lagasse-Girls-Flavor-Taste—Gluten/dp/0738217875/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412697524&sr=8-1&keywords=the+lagasse+girls

What a fabulous cook book. Everyone, whatever diet they follow should be allowed to eat attractive, flavoursome food. Sisters, Jessie and Jilly Lagasse, have had to alter their diets due to health reasons. This book they have written is full of gluten-free recipes for starters, mains, sides and desserts from the likes of Warm Apple and Brie Tartlets to Perfect Blueberry Muffins to Jilly’s Ginger Sesame Pork Stir Fry to Chocolate Raspberry Layer Cake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. The recipes they have devised show that a whole family can share and enjoy a menu without any family member being excluded due to diet restrictions.

I enjoyed reading the introduction about the girls and their history with food intolerance. Food sensitivity is an important issue and this book could be an answer to someone’s prayers.

The book lists essential store cupboard ingredients. The recipes are clear with mouthwatering photographs.

Let us all eat cake is not your usual baking book. It’s a recipe book written by professional pastry chef and cake artist, Catherine Ruehle.. After a dramatic health condition arose, which Catherine explains about in the introduction of the book, she had to take steps to change her diet. Catherine’s goal “was to create cakes and cupcakes that would be every bit as good as the originals … Because we all deserve to have cake.”

The book is informative and lists ingredients needed for your gluten free baking pantry. The recipes are clear and have mouthwatering photographs. It has wonderful recipes from Nana Banana Snack Cake to Triple Lemon Cake to Carrot Cake. Now with this book everyone can get their bake on!

As with all diets please seek the guidance and advice from a Dr and Health professional.

I’d like to thank the publishers of these books for an advance ecopy of the books for review purposes.
