Book Blurb

Three weeks before her wedding day, Alexandra decides to walk away from the perfect life, the one that involves 1.9 children and a dog in a 3-bedroomed semi with a 50-ft long garden. Why she decides to take her broken heart to sultry Spain is a mystery… or perhaps destiny.
Maggie, an expat of over thirty years with an outgoing personality and more secrets than the Interpol’s most wanted, introduces Alex, via her famed expat magazine CostaNations, to the ins and outs of living in Spain—but more importantly, to the quirks of dating Spanish men.
Before she finishes reading that chapter, sultry Carlos Rivera walks into Alex’ life (or rather swindles her out of a potent sweet wine whilst she’s having breakfast on her first morning), and from there, the cat-and-mouse game begins.
But is it the Spanish men Alex has to watch out for or is someone close to her hiding a much darker secret?
Add in a fiery Flamenco dancer whom Alex befriends, a pharmacist who has a cocktail of (legal) drugs ready for every expat’s trifles, and two cheeky young children, and you get a peculiar mix of people rooting for Alex, who innocently finds herself in the midst of a clandestine operation.
Will she unravel the mystery before her heart falls for the beauty of the arid lands called Málaga? Or will the man with the mysterious past entrap her first?

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

Cristina Hodgson knows how to write a great romcom, her sense of humour is fresh and frivolous and very honest.  This is Cristina’s 5th full length novel and is a standalone story.

Alexandra (Alex) has just recently made a momentous decision and with her broken heart she packs her bags and heads to Spain searching for respite and new beginnings.  One of the first people Alex bumps into when she lands in Spain is Maggie, a fellow Brit who has lived in Spain for over thirty years.  Maggie is a mature lady that is wily and a little bit quirky, she owns and runs CostaNations an expat magazine and she soon offers advice to Alex on the Spanish lifestyle and also offers tips on dating a Spanish man, just in case she needs this advice!

With Alex’s head buzzing with lots of new information and her body struggling to adjust to the heat of the different climate she encounters Carlos Rivera, a Spanish man with swoon worthy looks which sets her blood pressure up more than the heat!

Alex and Carlos start a great tantalising game of one-upmanship between each other and the chemistry between them soon starts sizzling.  They have fun in making life interesting for a little while but Carlos holds a mysterious edge to his character and soon puts the shutters up at the merest mention of his past.

When Maggie offers Alex work at the magazine and the chance to unearth secrets from Carlos’ past she could never imagine the ‘cloak and dagger’ machinations she would discover.

An Expat’s Guide to Falling in Love is another fun, crazy ride of a read from Cristina Hodgson that’s entertaining and filled with drama, a whole host of fabulous, unique characters and a romance to match the stunning sunsets in Spain.
