The Golden Girls’ Getaway written by Judy Leigh, publisher Boldwood Books, is available NOW in ebook and paperback format.

Book Blurb

It has been a long and lonely year for neighbours Vivienne, Mary and Gwen. All ladies of a ‘certain age’, their lockdown experience has left them feeling isolated and alone. They are in desperate need of a change.

Things start to look up however, when Gwen comes up with a plan to get them out of London by borrowing a motor home. In no time at all the ladies are on the road – away from the city, away from their own four walls, and away from their worries.

The British countryside has never looked more beautiful. As they travel from Stonehenge to Dartmoor, from the Devon and Cornish coasts to the Yorkshire moors, gradually the years fall back, and the three friends start to imagine new futures with no limitations.

And as their journey continues and their friendships deepen, and while the seaside views turn into glorious mountains and moors, Mary, Vivienne and Gwen learn to smile again, to laugh again, and maybe even to love again. Now they can believe that the best is still to come…

This was such a fun read and it is so refreshing to read a book about characters who are at the more mature age in life.

The Golden Girls feels very relatable especially with the pandemic restrictions of last year so the author Judy Leigh has incorporated this very real life event into a romcom. However, there’s no anxiety about the pandemic felt in the book as it looks at the social aspect of lockdown.

The Golden Girls aka Vivienne, who is in her 70’s and is an actress, Gwen who is also in her 70’s and is a retired opera singer and Mary who is in her 80’s and a retired nurse. The ladies are very different in personality but they do have a few things in common, they are neighbours all living under the same roof and they are experiencing life during lockdown.

The girls are getting frustrated and bored with restrictions and as neighbours they are already friends but when an opportunity crops up for them to escape and travel the country in a motorhome it is the perfect time to cement lifelong friendships.

As the girls pack their bags and head away from the confines of the city of London a new found freedom is felt between all three.

We follow the girls on a journey across the English and Welsh coastlines and countryside taking in all that they offer and more. But this is more than a road trip, it is a journey of enlightenment for all three as they learn more about each other, let themselves live in the moment and embark on memory lane tours.

I adored Mary she was such a fun character but her vulnerability was so tragically sad my heart went out to her. Gwen was probably the most responsible and I loved witnessing her emerge as a confident, beautiful flower. Vivienne oozed glamour and was full of confidence. They all brought a certain something to the group and blended beautifully. I laughed along with them and when it came to returning I too felt a sense of melancholy.

A fantastic, fun, read full of surprises.

Christmas Carols and a Cornish Cream Tea by Cressida McLaughlin @cressmclaughlin @RandomTTours @fictionpubteam #ChristmasCarolsCornishCreamTea

Christmas Carols and a Cornish Cream Tea written by Cressida McLaughlin, publisher HarperCollins, is available NOW in ebook, audiobook and paperback format.

Book Blurb

All Meredith Verren has ever wanted is to escape the holiday season without having to wear a
Christmas jumper. Her new job at the cosy gift shop in a picturesque Cornish tourist spot is
making it impossible for her to maintain her scrooge-like manner.
With their seasonal hampers on everyone’s wish list, Meredith must paste on a smile and fake
some holiday cheer. Then she meets handsome new arrival, Finn, who wishes it could be
Christmas every day and wants her to feel the same way too.
Can she embrace the holly and the ivy before the decorations are packed away for another year?

Cressida McLaughlin has enchanted me with this story as she sprinkled Christmas magic to those that needed it the most.

I haven’t read any of the previous Cornish Cream Tea books by Cressida McLaughlin and I didn’t feel at all disadvantaged. This book read perfectly as a standalone but I have to admit though it has made me want to revisit Cornwall with the author’s wonderful words of warmth and comfort.

Meredith hates the festive season and she struggles to let herself embrace all that it offers. She tends to hide away till the New Year when life starts to get back to normal. We don’t get to hear the reason of her anxiety at Christmas for a good while and it’s only the charm of a handsome stranger that slowly helps Meredith to open up.

Finn is currently on holiday in the Cornish coastal town that is Meredith’s home. Finn is handsome and very charming but he also holds a mysterious air about him.

As these two strangers meet a friendship blossoms and they find themselves learning about each others vulnerabilities gaining an inner strength they thought they didn’t hold.

I just loved how this story enveloped me in a cosy warmth and had me feeling hopeful, nostalgic and loved. Seeing the sights of the Christmas festivities felt magical and I could see how the community pulling together lifted the mood all around. The characters are written with warmth and are very likeable, I was championing them throughout. Cressida McLaughlin certainly knows how to please her readers, I just know I will be investing my time and money in her other stories.

Snow Falls Over Sunnybrook is Book 18 in The Little Duck Pond Cafe series and it is another success from author Rosie Green.

It’s Halloween at Sunnybrook and the girls persuade Ruby and Hudson to stay overnight at the Manor to prove a historical ghost story wrong. Ruby has developed feelings for Hudson so a night in his company is proving difficult to control her emotions. However, the night provides a few surprises and shocks including intruders on the manor estate.

Nothing is thought more of the suspicious activity until a similar event happens outside the cafe one night. So our would be sleuths, Ruby and Hudson, decide to investigate further resulting in a discovery that’s even more startling and dangerous.

I love Ruby and Hudson’s partnership, their amateur sleuthing is fun to witness and they share a great rapport with each other but dare they cross over the friendship line for something more?

Rosie Green has treated the reader to fun, frolics, danger, other worldly vibes and a gorgeous romance.

Author Bio – Rosie’s series of novellas is centred around life in a village cafe. Her latest, ‘The Wedding Cake Wish’, is out now. Look out for more Little Duck Pond Café tales in 2022, including ‘Chocolate Cake for Breakfast’ and ‘Christmas in June’.

“movement is medicine”

My First Animal Moves is a delightful introduction of exercise for small children. The book can be used for an individual one on one experience or perfect as a group class activity.

Darryl Edwards is a Movement Coach and has created this charming picture book to encourage children to get up and move more with the help of a few animal friends.

I loved the introduction of the animals and learning about their individual movements. I can imagine children relishing the idea of roaming around like a bear or a frog. As a parent or teacher you could expand the activity and find out more details about each animal or you could find other animal moves to impersonate.

The illustrations are bright, colourful and charming.

A fun, entertaining, activity picture book.
