I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Catherine Tinley’s latest historical romance: Captivating the Cynical Earl.

I do love a Regency Romance; the rules of society, the fashion, the beginnings of women wanting more for themselves. The streets of London graced with Lords and Ladies to the hard working lower classes struggling in the workhouses. To the country estates with land and tenants and the beauty of the English countryside. And to a love that felt often awkward and stilted with the constrains of the etiquette of the era to an all consuming swoon worthy passion. Catherine Tinley is one of a group from Mills & Boon that are top class historical romance authors who entertain their readers with all of the above and more.

Catherine Tinley instantly transported me to London 1819 with her descriptions of the setting and characters making me feel quite at home in this era.

Jack and Tom Beresford are brothers and as the older brother Jack has taken the title of Earl of Hawkenden. Jack has always looked out for his brother since the death of their mother when the boys were still so young. So when Tom informs Jack he has just got married to a young lady he has known for a matter of months and it’s a union of love you can imagine Jack’s disdain to the news. Jack instantly takes a dislike to the new bride with his cynical brain presuming all she is after is money and a partnership of love is just poppycock!

Lady Cecily too has reservations for this union. Nell is her best friend and Cecily was shocked how quick the relationship blossomed. But as she spends time with the newly weds Cecily can witness how perfect this union is. It’s just proving this to Tom’s older brother, Jack, that is cause for concern for all.

Catherine Tinley has created a wonderful Regency Romance that is filled with two love stories that take all parties concerned by surprise. As Cecily spends time getting to know the Beresford brothers she begins to understand there is a hidden sadness within that is preventing Jack especially to trust in love.

Romantic, charming, entertaining and poignant.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Catherine Tinley’s latest novel: The Earl’s Runaway Governess.

The Earl’s Runaway Governess was a delicious feast for the heart and soul.  I adored it and feel quite bereft now I’ve got to the end.

There’s currently a number of Regency Romance novelists who know just how to transport their readers into an era that is steeped with etiquette with society rules and regulations, scandalous rakes and dashingly handsome rogues and Catherine Tinley is one of these such authors who sets the scene and captures your heart with the characters and storyline.

I particularly liked this storyline of a young lady having no option but to flee her family home for fear of her own safety.  Marianne Grant’s life as she knew it for the last twenty years surrounded by love and comfortable wealth will be no more.  Still struggling with grief Marianne has to be strong and make a new life for herself.  A life on the other side of the social class, one were she has to be independent, work for a living and above all else hide her true identity otherwise the consequence could be devastating.

Securing a position of a governess for a recently widowed Lady and her twelve year old daughter Marianne, now Miss Bolton, has switched roles in a stately home.  However, keeping her alias secret proves difficult when she meets the new Earl of Kingswood and proprietor of the house.  Earl ‘Ash’ Kingswood has been bequeathed the home and estate and is at a loss how to run a vast estate like this, he’s also not sure how to run a home and cope with the emotional dramas from the women of the household.  Personalities soon clash between Marianne and the new Earl and the author has woven some great fun between these two characters as they learn to live with their new roles.

Catherine Tinley has packed so much into this story; we had a daring escape, a new beginning, new friendships, new hope but danger of the past rearing it’s ugly head was never far and Marianne felt the constant fear for her life.

A story that enthralled me, I was charmed by the characters and the strength in a young woman trying to overcome adversity.  The chivalry and romance that blossomed was befitting to the story and left me wanting more.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Catherine Tinley’s latest Regency Romance; The Makings of a Lady.  The Makings of a Lady is book three in The Chadcombe Marriages series.  The books can be read as a standalone as you are introduced to a new member of the siblings living at Chadcombe House, however as a Regency Romance lover I’d fully recommend reading all the books in the series.  The books in the trilogy are:

  • Waltzing with the Earl
  • The Captain’s Disgraced Lady
  • The Makings of a Lady

Once again Catherine Tinley has taken me to a time and a place when romance was an art, it was a beautiful dance of etiquette of society.  I love this era it is so different from the life of today and historical romance gives you a glimpse to time gone by.

Lady Olivia Fanton was eighteen when she first met Jem Ford who had come to Chadcombe to recover from injuries in battle.  However, their friendship was short-lived when Jem returned back to duty.  It’s now four year’s on and Lady Olivia is no longer the young girl, she is now a beautiful young woman trying to find her place.  She feels like her family still treat her as the young girl from years ago and Olivia is trying to prove otherwise.  She has spent four years getting over the loss of her friendship with Jem Ford but when she hears of his return memories of her heartache return.  To add to her confused heart a new suitor, George Manning, with his rather charming, handsome features and smooth prose has come to her attention.  Olivia doesn’t know which way to let her heart sway; she has a history of friendship with Jem but will he remember her as the young girl that helped him and have forgotten all about her or does she let her heart seek another?

Olivia’s life is put in danger and the circumstances surrounding it are most unusual.  Jem sets out to unravel the mystery.

I loved this story by Catherine Tinley it had plenty of warmth, romance but it was also filled with drama, danger and mystery.  I was captivated by Olivia, Jem and her close circle of family and friends.  Courageous, dramatic and oh so very romantic.

The Captains Disgraced Lady Full Banner Windows (1)

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating the launch of Catherine Tinley’s latest regency romance … The Captain’s Disgraced Lady.

I love a good regency romance; the travelling back in time to when ladies were introduced into society and when etiquette around the ton was paramount.  This is the first work by Catherine Tinley that I’ve read and I particularly enjoyed how she wove a love story around a pivotal moment in European history.  The Battle of Waterloo was a fierce fought battle that the officers and soldiers were summoned to whilst off duty at a ball in Brussels.  Kitted out in their finery the men had to quickly say their goodbyes to their loved ones and march on to an unknown fate …

Julianna Milford and her mother were travelling from their home in Brussels to visit friends in England.  Julianna first encounters Captain Harry Fanton on this journey and her first impressions to this gentleman is of his arrogant, brusque personality which immediately exasperates her.

Once settled at Chadcombe House, the home of her best friend Charlotte and her new husband Adam, her sense of serenity is disturbed by the arrival of Adam’s older brother, Captain Harry Fanton.  Julianna cannot believe how fate has brought them together again.

Julianna’s mother’s health soon becomes a concern and Harry’s personality changes to one of a caring nature and Mrs Milford was to become his priority.  However, the aristocratic circle is rife with gossip and rumours revolving Julianna and her mother, specifically Julianna’s parentage.  Once again Harry steps in to defend the ladies from this malicious gossip.

A friendship of sorts soon develops between Julianna and Harry but you can sense that Harry is holding back on his emotions.  This strong, charismatic, handsome Captain has a vulnerability about him which he’s afraid to show to anyone.  Visions from past events have plagued his nights since the terrible ordeal Harry went through.  With the uncertainty of war once again forefront in Harry’s mind can the demons from his past be laid to rest?

Can Julianna heal Harry’s heart and mind?  Will history end up repeating itself for a blossoming new love?

The Captain’s Disgraced Lady is a story filled with intrigue, drama, family saga, historical events and romance all told in a beautiful manner.  My heart was aching for the trauma Harry had endured but with this hope of a new beginning and love you are left feeling enlightened with warmth and positivity.  An absolutely gorgeous regency romance.
