Where rom-com meets reality…

Online dating by proxy. No one would know, right?

Zara isn’t looking for love. She already has that covered—Nigel is her perfect husband. All she needs to do now is find the perfect man for her twin sister Emmy, too. To protect her sister (and surprise her), Zara throws herself into online dating with gusto.

Shawn Taylor, undercover detective, returns home on a private assignment. It is the perfect chance to see Zara again and explain why he’d left so suddenly twenty years ago. Ultimately, he is here to protect her. His brief says she is in serious danger.

But something doesn’t add up. Why is Zara going out with scores of men when hubby is out of town? What kind of twisted game is she playing?

And why, when the castle of cards collapses in a messy heap, is she standing, wielding a whip, over a villain with an erection the size of the Eiffel Tower and his hands tied behind his back?

Pick up this hilarious rom-com to find out.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

I’ve become a huge fan of Cristina Hodgson’s work and I can’t praise her writing enough.  Cristina Hodgson creates a leading lady who’s life faces a turbulent time, she’s quite strong-willed and focused but goes about her latest project in a crazy, madcap way.  Our leading lady in this novel is Zara Hamilton.  However, behind all the fun and bravado we have a lady that is suffering in silence, a lady that hasn’t felt like her true self in a long time.

Zara Hamilton has come up with a crazy idea to find a ‘perfect brother-in-law’ for her twin sister Emmy who sadly lost her husband a few years ago.  Zara sets up dates and auditions would-be contenders herself as she is Emmy’s identical twin.  Zara has plenty of time on her hands as her husband works away a lot so going on dates posing as her sister is a perfect use of her time!

Whilst Zara is auditioning would-be suitors for her sister behind the scenes the foundations of Zara’s life is crumbling and is set to take an unexpectant turn and a love from her past holds the key to the mystery that is now unravelling.

With her life unravelling as fast as a ball of wool with a playful kitten Zara’s life is about to take a dramatic, dangerous turn.

This was a hugely entertaining read full of fun and frolics with twists and turns to leave you guessing what’s going to happen next.  It also has a lovely romance tangled up amongst the chaos and it will make your heart sing.

The Best of the Best from my reads in 2018

books and glasses clipart2018 was a brilliant year in books for me and I achieved my personal Goodreads challenge of 100 books by reading 114 books.  2018 was also a year that I became a host on blogtours for Rachel’s Random ResourcesRandom Things Tours and Love Books Group.  I have also continued to work with Faye Rogers PR Bookouture and Bookollective.

Working with new blogtour organisers has opened my eyes to new authors and I have also continued to work with indie authors.  This year alone I have discovered 50 new authors.

It’s always difficult to pinpoint your favourite books from the year especially as I choose books I know I’m going to like.  However, from the 100 odd books I’ve read in 2018 I’d like to give a special mention to the following:

I’d like to express my thanks to all the other fellow book bloggers, especially the WordPress Wonders (as I call them in my head), your help sharing the book love is greatly appreciated and I’m so pleased to consider you my friends.

I’m looking forward to another great year in books.

Isabella is the third and final instalment in the Chantelle Rose series and what a treat of a series that author Cristina Hodgson has delivered to us.

We’ve discovered in books one and two (A Little of Chantelle Rose book review here)  and (Valentina book review here) that Chantelle is a very likeable character, she’s a little crazy and madcap and very honest in her actions but this is why as a reader we’ve fallen for this wonderful character.  With this third instalment we learn more about the history surrounding Chantelle’s mother, Isabella.  Isabella’s story felt almost magical and mysterious and it was like reading two stories in one as we travel back and forth in time learning about Isabella and to the present time with Chantelle who is now a mother of a toddler.

Chantelle has been invited to Italy to the wedding of a long-lost cousin.  Chantelle is keen to discover her Italian heritage and is eager to make the trip.  A trip with her very own entourage of toddler, a Hollywood starlet and her best friend which creates much mayhem in the Italian sunshine.

I wholeheartedly recommend this fabulous trilogy by Cristina Hodgson, it’s fantastically funny, glamorous, sexy, filled with mystery, drama and has hints of magic.  It’s a glorious series that will thoroughly entertain you.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

Valentina is book two in the Chantelle Rose series, I read A Little of Chantelle Rose (book one) back in March this year and it is the author, Cristina Hodgson, debut full length novel.  I instantly fell in love with the author’s style of writing which was warm, full of fabulous characters, great comedic scenes and Cristina Hodgson kept me fully entertained and intrigued till the very end.  You can find my review for Book One here.  A Little of Chantelle Rose left me wanting more and Valentina has all the same great attributes and much more.

I would highly recommend reading all the books in the series in order as the story follows on from each book.  The books in the series are:

  • A Little of Chantelle Rose
  • Valentina
  • Isabella (coming soon)

Valentina kicks off with Chantelle facing a life changing event but she is left with an unfortunate dilemma.  To help her try and make the right decision with her predicament Chantelle feels she has to speak with Robbie back in Kent, UK.  However, by the time Chantelle arrives back home Robbie has left the country and has embarked on his own journey of self-discovery, a journey of unknown heritage, a journey to make sense of questions that have been unanswered for a long time.  Robbie’s journey takes him to the rural lands of Argentina and to the mystery surrounding Valentina and to a tragic story of young love that was cruelly cut short.

Chantelle is as impulsive as ever and in her own mad-cap way is in hot pursuit of Robbie.  We are treated to a great race with time and travel with Chantelle trying to piece together fragments of Robbie’s and of Lionel’s past and that of the mysterious woman called Valentina.

The author takes us back in time 33 years ago to when a 15 year old Valentina is learning about life and love.  I really enjoyed this part of the story, Cristina Hodgson had got the atmosphere just right I could feel the first emotions of young love and of the excitement of new beginnings.  Valentina was a beautiful young girl with her whole life ahead of her growing up in a country full of culture and heritage but forces she had no control over were to bring heartache her way.

Back to the present time we catch up with Valentina in Argentina and she is still feeling the scars of anguish she experienced when she was a young girl but flickers of hope are in evidence when she hears from someone she thought had been long forgotten.

This story was another fabulous romcom from Cristina Hodgson that was filled with intrigue, mystery and was a little mystical.  Chantelle’s character still shone through the story but I was also captivated by the introduction of other strong female characters and sense that this series from the author has a strong heritage of female intuition and beliefs that hold many secrets.  Fun, fabulous, romantic with an air of intrigue.  I look forward to the next instalment in the series.

A role to play that may strip her of everything. Except her name…

At the age of twenty-four, Chantelle Rose has all a city girl can expect: a tiny bed-sit in South London, a lousy poorly-paid job, a tyrannical boss, and quite a few exes added to an ever-growing list.

Desperate for change, she becomes an extra in a seedy crime film. When that leads to the opportunity of a lifetime – a role to play with a million dollars to win and seemingly nothing to lose – she accepts without thinking twice. After all, what could possibly go wrong? In any event, she´ll earn enough to buy her dream home, set up her own business and never worry about money again.

And what about love? Two men have won her heart: Robbie – sultry, silent, mysterious; and Lionel – Hollywood heart-throb, charm, wealth, adventure.

But who can she trust? Who is bent on scaring her away, and why?

There seems to be more at stake than just her heart. Will a million dollars be worth it?

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of  this book.  All opinions are my own and no content may be copied.  However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

A Little of Chantelle Rose is the debut novel from author Cristina Hodgson and what a fabulously fun read it was.  Cristina Hodgson has made a debut novel that is full of romcom attributes that we readers love, an author that I am now desperately looking forward to more from.

When Chantelle Rose was offered a million dollar deal she couldn’t quite believe it and would have been a fool to turn it down.  Whisked away to the States with first class treatment will stardom be all that Chantelle’s dreamed of?  Or will Chantelle get mixed up in her own real-life movie drama?

I loved Chantelle’s character she had a vulnerability about her that made her very real and honest.  She was a little crazy and chaotic at times resulting in some very funny scenes.  One minute Chantelle would be all shy and unassuming and the next she’d be Wonder Woman and conveying strong female powers and vibes.  I enjoyed the glitz, glamour and Hollywood gossip part of the storyline, I’m sure we all have a secret wish to live in the shoes of our favourite stars.  Most of all though I loved the  romance interwoven within the storyline.

Such a brilliant debut novel from Cristina Hodgson and what an ending!  I’m channelling all positive vibes for Team …?  Well, you’ll just have to read the book to decide who your allegiances lie with! 😉
