I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

I am so pleased to be involved in the mini blog blitz celebrating and promoting Nicole Locke’s latest historical romance novel: Secrets of a Highland Warrior.  I reviewed this novel on my blog back in June so I’m excited to share it again with the blog blitz.

Secrets of a Highland Warrior is book four in the unique Scottish Highland historical romance series that is written by four different authors set in the same Scottish Highlands but in four different time periods. If you’ve never read any historical romance before this series would be a good starting point with it visiting different periods of time; you can then decide which period you prefer or if like me you’ve discovered a new era and have fallen in love with new historical time zones.

I would strongly recommend reading the books in the order they were published as you can then get a sense of the storyline, the secrets, the mystery and the rugged landscape.  The books in the series are :

His Convenient Highland Wedding by Janice Preston
Unlaced by the Highland Duke by Lara Temple
A Runaway Bride for the Highlander by Elisabeth Hobbes
Secrets of a Highland Warrior by Nicole Locke

Secrets of a Highland Warrior is my first introduction to the work of Nicole Locke and her writing style drew me into a tale full of secrets, deceit, danger and love in the Scottish hills in the year of 1293.

The landscape of the highlands was strategically owned by different clans and the Chief of Clans were very protective of their land. However, when the King had granted some of the adjoining land to the Lochmore estate it was to cause a change of events for the future for many. As this adjoining land was currently owned by the McCleish clan and they were not to give up the land too easy.

Rory, son of the Chief of the Lochmore clan, was on his way to claim this new land. With his best friend Paiden and a few of his clansmen, he anticipated a fight would be forthcoming. What he didn’t anticipate was the daughter of the Tanish of the McCleish clan being part of the bargain.

Ailsa was the healer for the McCleish clan and was currently treating Hamish, Chief of the McCleish clan, who was gravely ill. Ailsa had been trained well by her predecessor and had been privy to secrets, which at first Ailsa thought were folklore between clans but when she meets Rory and notices certain traits about him Ailsa begins to wonder whether the words she heard in secret were actually true.

When danger reaches Rory’s party a race against time to save lives is at stake and Rory has to put his trust in someone he has only just met and that they are from an opposing clan.

With age old secrets and bitter feuds between clansmen slowly revealing themselves Nicole Locke has given us an historical mystery that is soon filled with a chemistry that sparks between opposing clans folk.

I have completely fallen in love with The Lochmore Legacy series with each story unearthing new facts surrounding mysteries of long ago with a clash of clans and a clash of hearts within each instalment. The epilogue rounds off the series beautifully which left me feeling quite emotional and bereft. Hats off to all four authors for a great concept for a historical romance series.

A Warriner to Protect Her is the first book in a new series by Virginia Heath.  The series is called The Wild Warriners and is set around four brothers Jack, Jamie, Joe and Jacob.  The Warriner boys live on a remote farm in Nottinghamshire and life on a farm was tough in 1813.  They are trying to rebuild the reputation of the family that has been sullied with gambling, drinking, cheating and tragedy.

The story begins with a terrifying ordeal for young heiress Violet Dunston.  She finds herself drugged and bound in a carriage heading for Gretna Green and her fate from thereon is fraught with danger.  Violet sadly lost her parents a few years ago, she has been left a huge inheritance which is due to be released on her 21st birthday, just over a month away.  She has become quite the catch in society with this inheritance looming.  Violet manages to escape from the carriage and runs scared for her life.  She stumbles across a lone horseman, Jack Warriner.  Jack can see the fear in Violet’s eyes and can also see that she is badly hurt.  Without any further hesitation he picks her up and caries her back to his farmhouse.

Jack’s brothers are shocked by this unexpected visitor but soon rally round caring for the forlorn young woman.  Jack can sense fear still in the young woman and realises whoever she is afraid of could be closeby searching for her.  He vows to protect her.  Can Jack protect Violet from her kidnappers and keep her safe till she can collect her rightful inheritance?

I loved this story.  It was deliciously moreish!  The Warriner brothers had grown up under a cloud and were doing all they could to break free from this tarnish in their family history.  The boys had grown up into strong handsome men and reminded me a little of The Musketeers, the bond they shared was unbreakable.  A young beautiful woman suddenly in their household brought new challenges to Jack.  He was struggling with his desire but his responsibility for the young woman was at the forefront of his mind.

A gorgeous Regency romance with swoon worthy male characters, all four brother would set your heart a flutter.  A daring, dramatic historical romance that is deliciously moreish 5/5*
