But who among the guests could have been capable of her murder – and why?

Nancy and Jane decide to investigate – after all, not only do they own a crime themed bookshop, they were also both named after famous literary detectives – but soon wonder if they’ve taken on more than they can handle. Especially when it seems the killer has worked out that they’re hot on their heels…

Can they catch the murderer before the murderer catches up with them? Or will there be a deadly ending to this story?

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

Victoria Walters is known for her contemporary feel-good romances so Murder at the House on the Hill is a complete genre swap for her and for me too. I’ve only dabbled in reading crime before but I had every faith in the author to deliver us something different but not too unsettling. My verdict: I really enjoyed this cosy crime, I was hooked with the storyline but also charmed by the characters and the gorgeous Cotswold country village setting.

I don’t know whether it was just me but as I was reading the novel I imagined the author as our leading lady Nancy!

Nancy and her lovely gran, Jane, live and work in the small village of Dedley End in the Cotswold. The name of the village is quirky and fab! They own the bookshop, Dedley Endings, a store dedicated to crime, mystery and thrillers and it sounded such a cosy retreat for all book lovers. Nothing much happens in this cosy, quintessentially English village so when an invite to a party at Roth Lodge arrives excitement and speculation ensues as the Roth family have kept themselves to themselves for 30 years.

The party brings glitz and glamour to the village with awe and wonder as the guests enter the splendid house. Introductions are made, canapes are tasted and the champagne is flowing but the merriment is halted with a jolt as a loud scream echoes throughout. Sadly, a body has been found and foul play is on everyone’s mind but ‘who dunnit’?!

The village is full of gossip on the events of party as the majority of the villagers were in attendance. Nancy and her best friend, Jonathan, have interesting thoughts about the crime and with Nancy’s evident interest in all things mysterious they vow to track down the accomplice of this crime.

We follow Nancy, Jane and Jonathan as they unearth secrets and lies surrounding the Roth family and the sad demise of a young woman.

This was such a fun read as it played on the cosy crime feels and there were no gruesome or graphic scenes to upset the balance. The pairing of Nancy and her gran was great and the age difference blended well together. I also enjoyed Nancy and Jonathan’s partnership, childhood friends who have bickered and teased each other for years but are fiercely loyal. I am looking forward to more from Dedley End and to see if Nancy and Jonathan’s friendship blossoms into something more.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

Victoria Walters is fast becoming one of my go to authors for feelgood fiction. Always and Forever is Book 4 in the Glendale Hall series and it’s another read to sit back and enjoy.

Glendale Hall has been such a lovely series full of warmth, inspiration, community spirit, friendship and love. All this and set in the most idyllic village in the Scottish hills. The residents will welcome you with open arms and make you fall in love with a little bit of Scotland that will stay in your heart, always.

Each story in the series can be read as a standalone but I would highly recommend reading the books in order as the characters lives to progress and it’s such a lovely collection of stories.

This is Anna’s story. We met Anna briefly in the last story at Brodie and Emily’s wedding. Anna is Brodie’s younger sister who left home at 18 and has been running from job to job, bedsit to bedsit, fleeing from the demons in her past. She is a complication character; a risk taker, carefree, independent but she hides her vulnerability well with her vivacious personality. It’s not until you get to know Anna that you learn she is alone fighting her own thoughts and she refuses to let anyone get close to her.

When her life takes another turn and she’s jobless and homeless Anna feels she has no option but to take the temporary job offer in Glendale that her brother Brodie has mentioned to her. Anna thrives on city life so the country life in the Scottish hills does not appeal to her one bit.

Cameron has been working at Hilltop Farm in Glendale since returning back from university. He has his old friends in the village but he prefer his own company. Cameron is another complicated character with grief and guilt laying heavy on his mind. It’s not until he meets Anna that he slowly removes the walls around his heart. But these walls are strong and some refuse to budge.

Can two tortured young people learn to let go of the past and help each other gain the strength to move on?

Victoria Walters has written another gorgeous instalment in this feelgood series. I liked Anna’s character she was so multi-layered you couldn’t help but love each side to her personality. Anna blended in well with the friends we’ve already met in Glendale and she brought a certain vibrancy and youthfulness to the group. Glendale has been such a wonderful series of stories that I hope one day the author will reunite us with the residents we have grown to love.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Victoria Walters latest novel: Hopeful Hearts at Glendale Hall.

Hopeful Hearts at Glendale Hall is book three in the Glendale Hall series. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone as they focus on the story of one of the characters but the characters lives from previous novels do carry on so I would highly recommend reading all the books in the series in order. The books in order are:

Coming Home to Glendale Hall

New Beginnings at Glendale Hall

Hopeful Hearts at Glendale Hall

What I’ve come to learn from Victoria Walters novels is that I will be totally and utterly captivated by the story. Life around me will cease and I will be engrossed amongst the pages of life and love in an idyllic village in the Scottish countryside. Hopeful Hearts at Glendale Hall sees us discovering more about Heather’s life.

Heather has been living on the farm with her boyfriend Rory and son Harry for just over two years. She is still unsure about this rural farm life as she felt she was a townie at heart and had dreamed of working all suited and booted maybe with her literacy or design love. But when she fell hopelessly in love with Rory life moved very fast and she’s now a mother of a toddler and works alongside Rory on the farm. Heather is feeling very overwhelmed with life in general and her grief from her mother passing 5 years ago still feels very raw. She feels anxious that she is not fulfilling any of her roles and when her ex-boyfriend reappears in the village bringing forth new exciting ideas to her head she is even more confused.

Stewart, Heather’s ex-boyfriend, broke her heart at a time when she needed him most. She met and fell in love with him at university when life was without responsibilities and there was plenty of fun to be had. Now Heather is settled and has responsibilities Stewart cannot understand where his girlfriend from the past has gone. I think he regrets his actions from the past and will do anything to get Heather’s affections again. Stewart is a property developer from Edinburgh and his company have set their sights on building a new development on the adjoining land to Rory’s farm. Heather becomes a little star struck with Stewart and his grand ideas but when he starts subtly manipulating her and her friends point out little comments she starts to wonder why his turning up in her life was on purpose and whether he had an ulterior motive to his actions.

Another gorgeous instalment in the Glendale Hall series. I adored returning to the village of Glendale and learning how my favourite characters were fairing in life. I loved Heather and Rory’s story, the author Victoria Walters, kept me on edge a little while wondering what she will throw at my book friends next. I always feel welcomed into the fold of community life in Glendale as it’s a very warm-hearted village. However, it’s not all idyllic in Glendale as life still trundles along with plenty of hurdles to face but with a heart full of hopefulness life can be faced with a different perspective.

A story full of warmth, comfort, friendship and love.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Francesca Capaldi’s debut novel: Heartbreak in the Valleys.

Francesca Capaldi has written such a compelling read with Heartbreak in the Valleys that had me gripped with emotion on many levels.  This author is definitely one to watch in the historical fiction/saga world.  I could sense the atmosphere and the authenticity of the location and era and it all felt very real.

I’m a miner’s daughter myself and was bought up within a mining community, I also love stories set around the two world wars so when I heard about Heartbreak in the Valleys I knew I had to read it.

Heartbreak in the Valleys is a story set around a young couple making plans for the future.  Idris Hughes and Anwen Rhys have lived in the Welsh mining village all their lives.  However, when war breaks many local men signed up including Anwen’s sweetheart Idris.  But when Idris returns unexpectedly he’s a different man and the dreams that he held for the future look very distorted and unreachable in his eyes. Coping with life after returning from training for Idris is proving very difficult both physically and mentally and he suffers greatly. Anwen is heartbroken and is so confused with Idris’ new persona however, she tries to make a new life for herself and also bringing the community together to help out with the war effort.

Life is hard in the small mining village and children are expected to help with the household bills.  Many children can be seen working at the pits undertaking various roles.  The mines in the early 1900’s were such a dangerous place to work in, no health and safety regulations back then.

When tragedy strikes the community is pulled together once more and you can feel the tension in the moments and hours after an event that will change the life of so many in the village of Dorcalon.

Heartbreak in the Valleys is such wonderful, heartfelt story telling that is raw and gritty but it has a wonderful sense of community spirit.  I truly didn’t want this story to end and I look forward to more from Francesca Capaldi.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Victoria Walter’s latest novel: New Beginnings at Glendale Hall.

This was such a welcome return to Scotland and to the lovely village of Glendale with the beautiful Glendale Hall.  In book one we met and read about Beth, Izzy and family and I would highly recommend reading Coming Home to Glendale Hall prior to reading this novel to fully appreciate and enjoy the storyline and characters.  Book Two in the series; New Beginnings at Glendale Hall, is the story of Beth’s best friend from London, Emily Prescott.  Emily is a baker and has agreed to make Beth and Drew’s wedding cake however, just a few weeks prior to the big day Emily discovers some upsetting revelations about her boyfriend Greg and she decides to bring forward her visit to Scotland early just to escape and take stock of her life.
Enjoying the blissful countryside in Scotland doesn’t last too long when the complications in Emily’s love life become even more chaotic with a new startling discovery, the unearthing of more lies and throw in a handsome minister just to unsettle Emily even more!  Emily is all of a fluster with which way her heart and mind is going.
Victoria Walters has expanded her catalogue of lovely characters in Glendale enveloping us with more community spirit.  The author has created another wonderful interlude in life and loves in the Scottish highlands.  I loved the introduction of new characters, especially Brodie Glendale’s lovely minister!  This story, just like book one, is charming, realistic, full of hope and new beginnings with a heap of delicious sounding delicacies and romance!  Hope there’s more to come in Glendale …

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Victoria Walters latest novel: Coming Home To Glendale Hall.

Victoria Walters has written a wonderful, festive, feelgood story about real people with real life problems.  Beth Williams fled her home in a small country village in Scotland ten years ago.  She was 16 and had just discovered she was pregnant and not wanting to upset her family anymore she leaves her home and heads for London.  Scared and all alone Beth finds the strength and courage to bring her daughter into the world but she still has resentful feelings for the family that disowned her.  However, 10 years on and Beth with her daughter Izzy are on their way back to Scotland to the home she grew up in as her grandmother is very ill.  Beth is very apprehensive for her return to the family home but as soon as she drives up the gravel drive and sees the gardens she adored a sense of longing that she put to the back of her heart and mind is emerging.

There is a frosty atmosphere within the household but the enthusiasm of Beth’s daughter Izzy visiting the house is infectious.  Beth slowly starts to remember what she loved about living in Glendale Hall and the village life but when they visit the village centre they are shocked to see it’s almost deserted with many well loved shops and cafes closed.  With the help of her old school friend Heather the girls are on a mission to bring the community back together.  Will bringing the community together help break down the barriers that have built within her own family?

However, when a figure from her past turns up Beth’s life is about to be turned upside down.  Beth fell in love with Drew ten years ago and thought she’d never see him again.  Her emotions are so confused at the moment and she doesn’t know what to believe or which step to make?

A story filled with a family full of secrets and miscommunications.  When life gives you a second chance will this be the moment your heart and mind could be set free and be able to move forward?

Perfect festive loveliness.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Kim Nash’s latest novel: Escape to Giddywell Grange.

Escape to Giddywell Grange is a gorgeously comforting, uplifting novel that you will devour and not want the story to end.

When the path you’d planned and envisioned taking is suddenly pulled away from you life as you know it feels lost.  Maddy Young was obsessed with work, her motto was work hard then play hard.  She spent most of her life working in her power suits and zooming around the country in her executive company car.  Her heart had been broken a few years ago but she felt positive for the future until she was handed her redundancy papers with immediate effect.  For someone who spent most of her time working Maddy hadn’t a clue were to start on how to fill her time and a sadness crept in.

Maddy’s best friend, Beth, felt like this redundancy was the perfect opportunity for Maddy to reassess her life and Beth had a cunning plan and had set tasks for Maddy to complete.   Tasks to step her out of her comfort zone, tasks to reignite lost loves and tasks to make Maddy think twice about the lifestyle she’d worked so hard to achieve.  Unbeknown to Maddy these tasks were tailored perfectly to help her overcome this stumbling block in her life.  We follow Maddy learning to pick herself up and move on from a blip in her life.

Kim Nash has written such a gorgeous story that is sadly very relatable in today’s economic climate.  You can feel an empathy with Maddy but you also want to cheer her on with starting afresh.  I absolutely adored the setting of the story a farm with a doggy day care centre; animals do tend to bring out a softness to characters and bring warmth and charm to a storyline.  Relatable, romantic and perfect cosy read.

But as Grace falls deeper for Vinnie, ten-year-old Archie fears that his mum finding love means she’ll never reconcile with the dad he loves.

So when ex-husband Mark begs her for another chance, telling her he’s changed from the man that broke her heart, Grace finds herself with an impossible dilemma. Should she take back Mark and reunite the family that Archie loves? Or risk it all for a new chance of happiness?

A funny, feel good romance about finding your own path and changing your life for the better – readers of Cathy Bramley, Jill Mansell and Josie Silver will love this uplifting read.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Kim Nash’s debut novel: Amazing Grace.

Kim Nash has written a delightful romcom about a single mum, Grace, stepping out of her comfort zone and putting herself first, just a little bit.  I loved Grace’s effervescent friend, Monica, (I think we all need a Monica in our lives), how she initially shook Grace’s life up abit, totally revamping her look and putting her back in the dating game, with very comical results.  I was literally laughing out loud at these scenes that the author had created with some fabulous one-liners that some dates think are perfect to their would-be suitors! 😉

Grace’s morale and self-esteem has taken a little battering since her split from her husband Mark.  With shared custody of their ten year old son, Archie, Grace’s dreams of family life are shattered but Grace tries her best to make her home with her son a happy one.

When Grace opens her heart to let love back in again she’s surprised how different she feels to this new friendship to what she had felt when she was married.  But life is still full of confusing and complicated emotions and Grace’s heart is tested.

I loved how the author added poignant words of wisdom from Grace’s late mother amongst the chapters.  These words were comforting and uplifting.  Having experienced this profound grief myself I totally appreciated the poignancy of these comments and the scenes they were written in.

Amazing Grace is a thoroughly enjoyable story.  It is warm-hearted, fun and so beautifully poignant.

Amazing Grace is such a beautiful, heartfelt debut novel by Kim Nash, I can’t wait to see this author go from strength to strength.
