Lady Tregowan’s Will story. REVIEW

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

I was so excited to read book 3 in Janice Preston’s latest trilogy; Lady Tregowan’s Will. This trilogy has completely captivated me and I was a little intrigued by the premise of the storyline, you can find my reviews for books one and two here: https://kraftireader.wordpress.com/2021/08/10/double-review-lady-tregowans-will-books-one-and-two-by-janice-preston-janicegpreston-millsandboon-harlequinbooks-bookreview-historicalromance-millsandbooninsider/

The Penniless Debutante is Aurelia’s story and I think it might be my favourite story of the three but maybe that might be because it feels like a wrapping up/conclusion to this wonderful trilogy that the author has created.

Aurelia I feel is the most spirited and vivacious of the three young women who have recently been thrust together in a world far from their own upbringings. I do feel reading all the books in order will enhance your experience as the characters lives do progress and you also witness how each individual girl copes with the news of their surprising inheritance. One of the conditions of the will is that they must not wed the current Lord Tregowan, no reason has been given to this but if any of the conditions are not met then the recipient will forfeit their portion of the estate. Ironically, Aurelia by chance meets Lord Tregowan on the day that changes her life forever and she’s not quite sure what to make of him as her reaction creates quite a stir within her emotions. Understandably, Lord Tregowan is upset and angry that his inheritance is no more and he’s perplexed to how three complete strangers are now in possession of what he thought was intended for him.

We follow Aurelia as she comes to terms with the changes in her fortune and how she learns more about the mysterious benefactor and also Lord Tregowan.

I loved Aurelia’s character, her feistiness, her beauty and her stubbornness to obey protocol. However, she hid her vulnerability regarding her upbringing and this side of her character gave her doubts concerning men in society. Lord Tregowan was certainly a mystery to begin with but his softer, less sure of himself side was adorable.

A gorgeous Regency romance that was a fitting finale to a glorious trilogy.

REVIEW

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

The Rags to Riches Governess was published in January this year and has been sat patiently waiting for me to read. I am thrilled to now be able to share my review along with Book Two in the trilogy. Janice Preston is one of my ‘go to’ historical romance authors as she understands the era she is writing about, her characters are written with warmth and charm and she writes stories with romance that slowly bubbles away in the background till it reaches fever point.

This is book one in a new trilogy titled Lady Tregowan’s Will based on three young women from differing backgrounds, that are strangers who are brought together by an inheritance from a lady who is trying to make amends for the past. Each story is written in a way that can be read as a standalone but now that I’ve read book one I am keen to continue with the mystery of the fortune that’s bestowed on the young ladies.

Leah Thame is enjoying her role as governess to Lord Dolphinstone’s 3 young children. Since her appointment to the position she hasn’t seen the Lord as he fled oversees with work following the untimely death of his wife, leaving Leah to care for his two sons and young daughter’s educational and personal wellbeing.

When Leah is summoned to a solicitors’ office she is shocked to discover she is 1/3 of a beneficiary of an estate left by a Lady Tregowan. The inheritance has many conditions attached and Leah is left confused and concerned for her future. She also now has the sudden return arrival of Lord Dolphinstone to contend with leaving her with more anxious thoughts. Leah has fallen in love with the children and as she gets to know their father a frisson of chemistry is felt. However, Leah has been left heartbroken in the past and is afraid to trust another man especially one that is still mourning his late wife.

Lord Dolphinstone is keen to rebuild a relationship with his children, he’s annoyed with himself for being away so long and realises he needs to tread carefully with them. He didn’t expect to meet someone that would make his heart beat again but Leah Thame is proving to be hard to resist. However, the Lord feels he has to punish himself for his past role as a husband and feels he must deny his own feelings.

Janice Preston has created a lovely, slow building romance with a hint of mystery surrounding the inheritance and it’s many conditions. Heart-warming, romantic and a gorgeous page turner of a story.

She’s inherited a fortune

In return, believing her new fortune can help the injured veteran rebuild his life, Beatrice proposes a convenient marriage. But is this all she can offer – or dare Beatrice believe she’s worthy of more…?

REVIEW

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

The Cinderella Heiress is Book Two in the Lady Tregowan’s Will trilogy and after reading book one I was already invested in the present and future for these three young women who find themselves thrust into a world so far from their upbringings but also a world that was denied them.

This is Beatrice’s story. Beatrice, I feel, is the most naive, shy and vulnerable of the three girls. Since the death of her father a few years ago she has been living under the protection of her half-brother Percy and his wife. However, her life has been more like a slave than a member of the family. When Beatrice hears of her inheritance she fears that Percy will find out and put a stop to her new life. Constantly bullied and belittled Beatrice worries how she will escape the hold of her brother. This is until her unexpected introduction to Jack King.

Jack King (aka Lord Jack Kingswood) is a war veteran and casualty suffering now with a disability. He is constantly aware of his impediment and feels he is not much use to anyone let alone a future wife. But when he meets Beatrice emotions stir that had laid dormant but he still doubts his ability and feels no one will look twice at him with his disability.

As the conditions of the inheritance become more imperative and time is running out Beatrice has to think of a way to escape and a daring plan is hatched.

I adored this second book in the trilogy. You can’t help but fall in love with Beatrice who has suffered greatly via the hands of those she thought could be trusted and when a hero from the Napoleonic war comes to her rescue you just know is was meant to be. However, Beatrice and Jack’s journey to self-discovery, self-love and acceptance, happiness and love is fraught with danger, doubt and despair making a captivating story.

I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Aurelia, our third young lady in receipt of good fortune. The Penniless Debutante is due to be released on 28th October 2021. To pre-order the book please follow the link below:

What is The Lochmore Legacy series?

The Lochmore Legacy is a captivating 4 book series with a difference; it’s four individual stories written by four top-selling Mills & Boon historical authors: Janice Preston, Lara Temple, Elisabeth Hobbes and Nicole Locke.  The stories are standalone novels but are linked by the setting of a castle in the Scottish Highlands and by a feud between two clans that has spanned centuries.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

Book 1: His Convenient Highland Wedding by Janice Preston starts in 1841 in Castle McCrief were twelve year old Flora, one of the Earl’s daughters is feeling abit miffed with her father’s attitude towards her.  Flora is a high spirited young girl and is full of ideas to help with the upkeep of the castle that is rapidly eating up the family’s wealth.  Her suggestions have been rebuked so many times she feels dispirited.  With her temper still seething Flora goes off for a wander in the castle to work off her steam but during this time she makes a startling discover that frightens her to her core.

Seven years on and the discovery that Flora found still leaves Flora with a chilled fear and questions she’s been afraid to ask.  But now the castle is in bad disrepair and her father has virtually sold her off to a stranger and she is set to marry a wealthy gentleman.  A man she’s never seen or heard of before but his money is good for the family home.

Lachlan McNeill is a ruggedly handsome man that has worked hard the last few years earning his wealth.  He’s now bought himself a castle, a distillery and now a wife.  His life is looking almost complete but there’s a hidden sorrow within Lachlan that he’s desperate to remedy.  Life in the past was very difficult for Lachlan and his family and a tragedy has left him with a guilt he’s struggling to overcome.  Outwardly Lachlan looks the perfect husband but he’s so overcome with the strain from the emotions brought on by his past that it’s placing a barrier against any future happiness with his wife.

I loved this story set in the Scottish Highlands, Janice Preston described the setting perfectly and you could feel a sense of ruggedness of the land and the remoteness to the nearby city of Glasgow.  Flora had two different personalities in the story, she was so vibrant as a young girl but by the time she was due to wed her father had knocked the spirit out of her.  Once wed she was quite shy and reserved but her spirit from long ago was still there slowly simmering in the background.

With secrets in both Flora and Lachlan’s past can the newlyweds help each other to overcome them?  Will the feud from long ago lift it’s ugly head and what is the startling find that Flora discovered?

His Convenient Highland Wedding is gorgeously romantic with a storyline that is filled with secrets, drama and charm.

The Lochmore Legacy looks set to be a fantastic, exciting series with romance firmly at the heart of the stories.  I can’t wait to read each story.

Reviews

Scandal and Miss Markham:  This is book two in The Beauchamp Betrothals, although each story can be read as a standalone characters from each story will crop up and have relevance to each storyline.  I would therefore, highly recommend reading all the books in the series in order (see above).

This is the story of Thea (Dorothea) Markham and Vernon Beauchamp, the younger brother to Duke Leo Beauchamp who we met in Cinderella and The Duke.  Thea Markham is the daughter of a glass manufacturer and since her father’s illness Thea and her brother Daniel have taken over the reigns of running the business.  Thea is feeling quite anxious at the moment as her brother Daniel failed to return home 5 days ago and she is becoming increasingly concerned.  When an unexpected visitor turns up with details of a letter from Daniel Thea is unsure to trust this stranger.  This stranger is non other than Vernon Beauchamp, who has turned to Thea for help with regards to his cousin, who is also missing, and he believes Daniel may have the answer.

With a few clues as to Daniel’s last whereabouts Vernon sets off to help unravel this mystery of a missing brother and his cousin.  Unbeknown to Vernon the headstrong Thea follows Vernon into the darkness to help with the unexplained absence of her beloved brother.

Thea was such a great character; she was headstrong, loyal to her family, set in her ways and so oblivious to the etiquette of ladies of Regency England.  However, Thea did have a vulnerable side and she had suffered greatly with her heart and was struggling with guilt and trust.

Could Thea learn to trust this rather handsome rakish stranger Vernon Beauchamp?

As Thea and Vernon unearth many secrets along their journey to find Daniel they come face to face with danger.  Along with danger the duo are fighting with their heightened emotions they are experiencing working so close together.  A gorgeous Regency Romance filled with drama, mystery with a fabulous budding relationship filled with banter, intrigue and passion.

Lady Cecily and the Mysterious Mr Gray:  Book 3 in The Beauchamp Betrothal series.  Lady Cecily is the sister to Leo and Vernon Beauchamp and with recent changes to her brother’s lives Cecily is feeling a little at lost in her life.  She’s not sure where she stands now within the family and when a handsome stranger is concerned with Cecily’s health and wellbeing she starts to consider her options for the future.

This handsome stranger is Zachary Gray who is a good friend of Thea Markham’s brother Daniel.  Zachary is not your typical Regency gent, for starters his attire is more flamboyant and casual looking.  Zachary is a Romany traveller and has quite a free spirited lifestyle.  However, when he sees the forlorn looking Cecily he feels a spark of a flame slowly igniting inside him.

Cecily feels that she has limited options being a spinster in Regency time, she feels like she needs to follow her head and find a husband fast.  However, her heart is leaning towards the mysterious Zachary Gray.  Cecily knows that this partnership would be unthinkable, a Lady from society and a Romany man with a mysterious past would be an improper relationship.  But this unlikely duo are drawn to each other and Cecily is soon fighting with her principles and those of her brothers.

I loved Cecily and Zachary’s story, at a time when diversity was unheard of and ladies in society were programmed to behave in a certain fashion, the duo were trying to brake the mould.  Another gorgeous instalment in The Beauchamp Betrothal series.  Janice Preston has created a series filled with charm, drama, intrigue and mystery all finished off with a big dose of passion.

Cinderella and The Duke by Janice Preston book review

cinderella and the duke

Cinderella and the Duke written by Janice Preston, publisher Mills & Boon Historical, is available NOW in ebook and paperback format.

Never welcomed into society circles, Rosalind Allen gave up her marriage prospects long ago―life has taught her she’ll only get hurt. So she’s shocked when an encounter with a mysterious stranger makes her long to reconsider…
Little does Rosalind know that her mystery man is Leo Beauchamp, Duke of Cheriton, travelling in disguise to evade the ladies of the ton! Impoverished Rosalind is the first woman to captivate Leo―but can he persuade this wary Cinderella to trust him with her heart?

regency couple silhouetteWhat more could you want from a Regency Romance? Country settings with grand houses, a damsel forsaking her own happiness looking after her younger siblings, a handsome stranger with chiselled features, society’s scripted choreography of courtship and a scoundrel/villain to despise?!  Cinderella and the Duke had all this and it was a treat to read.

I’m getting quite a taste for this genre, the authors, including Janice Preston, have transported me to a time of hardship for many but also to a time of pomp and ceremony.  A time when young ladies were chaperoned and introduced to society.  A time when wearing your best for a walk in the park was a necessity.  This era is so fascinating to read about and fictional stories do bring it to life.

In Cinderella and the Duke we meet 30 year old Rosalind Allen who with her brother have fled to the country in Buckinghamshire to get away from Sir Peter Tadlow, who had been recently appointed guardian to their stepsister Nell.  Sir Peter was a rogue and was helping himself to Nell’s inheritance and had set his sights on marrying Nell off to a very unsuitable suitor.  Nell, thankfully, had fled to London to visit her aunt in readiness of her debut into society with a view to finding a more savoury husband.

During one of Rosalind’s many walks in the country she happens across a group of gentlemen including one very smarmy character whom unsettles Rosalind.  However, one of the other gentlemen unsettles her in a very different way; a beautifully chiselled man with the darkest of hair.

For the last fourteen years Rosalind has taken the roll of mother to her brother Freddie, her stepsister Nell and stepbrother Jack.  Rosalind has forsaken her own chance of finding love to raise her siblings.  Now at 30 years of age she fears her courting times have gone but her heart is betraying her with feelings she has not felt before after this brief encounter with this handsome stranger.

Leo Beauchamp is the sixth Duke of Cheriton, since the death of his wife over 10 years ago he has singlehandedly brought up his three children.  Whilst away from the city he likes to take on a different persona, away from the ladies vying for his attention wishing to become the next Duchess.  Leo too feels a little unsettled following the encounter with Rosalind Allen, he cannot get the woman out of his mind.  Rosalind is very different to the ladies that parade around him.  Further chance encounters bring Rosalind and Leo together and the chemistry is almost magnetic and quite enticing.

This was a gorgeous tale of love, family, ownership and courtship.
