’The day I turned 28, I bought a lighthouse and met the love of my life’

Bobbie Hannigan’s life in a cottage by the sea with her dog and her twin sister is perfectly fine … until she decides the logical thing is to buy a lighthouse and open a music venue with Ross Mason, the first boy she ever kissed.

Bobbie tries to be professional with Ross, but the happily-ever-after they’re working toward is too good to resist. That is until someone from his past crawls back to cause trouble. Can Bobbie look past the secrets Ross has been keeping from her? Or will the boy, the lighthouse, and the dream all slip away?

lighthouse and beam of light

When you fall in love with a story in a book it seems to make your whole world glow that little bit brighter and this is just how I feel about this story by Mary Jayne Baker.

Set in a little village on the Yorkshire coast a story to make your heart swell with love and pride for a couple that not only let love into their hearts but they gave up their spare time, cash and much more to turn a derelict building into an inspirational place to nurture music for all in the local community.

Bobbie Hannigan and her twin sister have lived in the small coastal village all their life.  During a night out when Bobbie catches the eye of the singer from the band playing at the local pub and then realising he is non other than Ross Mason, the first boy she ever kissed back in school.  Ten years gone and Ross has matured very nicely and reminiscing over the past the pair decide to buy a lighthouse and bring it back to it’s former glory and more turning it into a place of creativity encouraging new music talent; a dream that Ross has held for a while.

We follow the couple on their journey jumping through hoops with the restoration project.  We also follow Bobbie and Ross’ personal journey of moving on from traumas and broken hearts in the past.

The lighthouse proves to be a beacon of light of love, hope and inspiration.

A wonderful story filled with Yorkshire charm, wit and warmth.  Characters to fall in love with and to champion.  A story that is deliciously sexy and so romantic.  A story you want to shine brightly for a long time 5/5*

The trap is set – but which one of them is the bait?

Journalist Angel Blackthorne is looking for her next big scoop. When her sleazy editor asks her to use her charms on super successful – and married – film director Sebastian Wilchester for a juicy exposé, Angel thinks what the hell? There’s a staff job on the horizon, and, let’s be honest, no one can make a cheater cheat if they don’t want to, right?

After the scandal breaks, Angel tries to put the story – and Seb – behind her, but fate seems to have other ideas. A near miss at a premiere after-party and a shared love of vintage film brings the honey closer to the trap.

But what happens when pretence leads to passion, and a ‘kiss and tell’ becomes something real?

What a fabulous debut novel from Mary Jayne Baker.

I’d like to thank Mary Jayne for an arc in return for a review.  I love discovering new authors and finding Mary Jayne has been a wonderful revelation.  Mary Jayne’s debut novel flows smoothly at quite a speed with celebrity journalism pulling out all the stops to snare one half of the current ‘in’ couple.  The honey trap doesn’t go without consequences and young, aspiring intern at The Daily Investigator, Angel, didn’t expect her emotions to be so confused over the whole ordeal.  Angel’s career and love life takes an unexpected turn after this entrapment.  What Angel doesn’t realise is her own emotions have also been ensnared by this one event.

Can Angel ignore her confused feelings and can the media crazy public ignore the headlines?

What follows is a fun filled, sexy read that is unputdownable!  The scandal, the lust, the greed, the secrecy, the revelations, the romance is quite addictive.

I loved all the characters Mary Jayne had created, even grumpy boss Steve, with his crass Yorkshire dialect.  His honesty was quite comical and shocking at times.  The story was a little far fetched but I still loved it and who knows what goes on behind anyone’s door?  The scruples that red top journo’s have undertaken are quite unbelievable but us readers are guilty of buying into the scandalous headlines.

A brilliant debut that is a fun-filled, sexy romp of a read.  4.5/5*  Can’t wait for more from Mary Jayne Baker!

About the Author

Mary Jayne Baker grew up in rural West Yorkshire, right in the heart of Brontë country… and she’s still there. After graduating from Durham University with a degree in English Literature in 2003, she dallied with living in cities including London, but eventually came back with her own romantic hero in tow to her beloved Dales.

She lives with him in a little house with four little cats and a little rabbit, writing stories about girls with flaws and the men who love them. You can usually find her there with either a pen, some knitting needles or a glass of wine in hand. She goes to work every day as a graphic designer for a magazine publisher, but secretly dreams of being a lighthouse keeper.
