The Knight’s Convenient Alliance is Book 4 in the Notorious Knights series and it is also Melissa Oliver’s fourth published book in just 17 months. Melissa Oliver has burst onto the Medieval Romance scene and has left her readers wanting more … You can find my reviews of the author’s previous books by following the link: https://kraftireader.wordpress.com/?s=melissa+oliver

This is the story of Brida O’Connaill and Thomas Lovent and their rather unconventional tale of love overcoming a history that left a guilty feeling within oneself, of a dramatic heroic mystery and a humorous game of ‘will they, won’t they.’

We briefly met Brida and Thomas in book 3 however, you do not need to have read any of the previous books to enjoy any of the stories in the series as they are easily read as a standalone. But characters from previous stories do crop up in later instalments making it lovely to see progression in their lives and it is also a wonderful series.

Brida and Thomas have a brief history but 3 years have passed and they have seen ‘hide nor hair’ of each other until Thomas is found collapsed in her home nursing a wound. For the last 3 years Brida has kept up a pretence that she’s married and her husband works away so when Thomas turns up the villagers are jubilant for his return leaving Brida with some explaining to do for a very smug knight who finds the whole situation hilarious and he thoroughly laps up all the attention.

Thomas Lovent has a secret double life and he’s brought danger inadvertently to Brida’s door. A dramatic escape ensues with a limited timescale to reach a pivotal event that is imperative to run smoothly for the peace of the kingdom. Danger is afoot and no-one is to be trusted. However, what fears both Brida and Thomas is their own past which has indented a guilt within each other that has shaped the way they live their lives now.

Melissa Oliver has written an entertaining medieval romance with danger around every corner which includes the temptation of each others hearts. Gorgeous!

I am so pleased to be involved in the blog blitz celebrating and promoting the launch of book three in The House of Leofric trilogy. I really enjoyed returning to Medieval England and to a world of castles, noblemen, warriors and wars of land and propriety. You can find my review for Book Two in the series here Under the Warrior’s Protection by Ella Matthews @ellamattauthor @MillsandBoon @rararesources #blogtour #bookreview #historicalromance | kraftireader (wordpress.com)

Book Three, The Warrior’s Innocent Captive, focuses on the younger Leofric sibling, Linota, a young woman along with her older sister that was badly treated most of their lives. Now free of the confines of home the girls are on their way to live with their older brother and his new wife.

Erik Ward is one of the warriors that has been tasked to escort the sisters on their arduous journey to their new home. Erik can’t ignore the beauty of Linota and understands with his upbringing he can only be friends with this young woman but this does not stop him desiring of more.

When Linota’s life is put in danger Erik races to her rescue but finds himself faced with a dilemma of the heart with a glimmer of hope from his past causing him to betray what he now holds dear. Can Erik keep both his past and present safe from any danger?

The Warrior’s Innocent Captive can easily be read as a standalone novel but it was interesting to learn of Linota’s journey to freedom and happiness. I would therefore, highly recommend reading all the books in the series to fully appreciate the history with the continuing storyline and characters.

Ella Matthews has created a gorgeous medieval romance that is filled with danger, lessons from the past and passions of the heart.

Author Bio – Ella Matthews lives and works in beautiful South Wales. When not thinking about handsome heroes she can be found walking along the coast with her husband and their two children (probably still thinking about heroes but at least pretending to be interested in everyone else).

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

Secrets of a Highland Warrior is book four in the unique Scottish Highland historical romance series that is written by four different authors set in the same Scottish Highlands but in four different time periods.  If you’ve never read any historical romance before this series would be a good starting point with it visiting different periods of time; you can then decide which period you prefer or if like me you’ve discovered a new era and have fallen in love with new historical time zones.

I would strongly recommend reading the books in the order they were published as you can then get a sense of the storyline, the secrets, the mystery and the rugged landscape.

The books in the series are (my reviews are available by clicking the title of the book):

Secrets of a Highland Warrior is my first introduction to the work of Nicole Locke and her writing style drew me into a tale full of secrets, deceit, danger and love in the Scottish hills in the year of 1293.

The landscape of the highlands was strategically owned by different clans and the Chief of Clans were very protective of their land.  However, when the King had granted some of the adjoining land to the Lochmore estate it was to cause a change of events for the future for many.  As this adjoining land was currently owned by the McCleish clan and they were not to give up the land too easy.

Rory, son of the Chief of the Lochmore clan, was on his way to claim this new land.  With his best friend Paiden and a few of his clansmen, he anticipated a fight would be forthcoming.  What he didn’t anticipate was the daughter of the Tanish of the McCleish clan being part of the bargain.

Ailsa was the healer for the McCleish clan and was currently treating Hamish, Chief of the McCleish clan, who was gravely ill.  Ailsa had been trained well by her predecessor and had been privy to secrets, which at first Ailsa thought were folklore between clans but when she meets Rory and notices certain traits about him Ailsa begins to wonder whether the words she heard in secret were actually true.

When danger reaches Rory’s party a race against time to save lives is at stake and Rory has to put his trust in someone he has only just met and that they are from an opposing clan.

With age old secrets and bitter feuds between clansmen slowly revealing themselves Nicole Locke has given us an historical mystery that is soon filled with a chemistry that sparks between opposing clans folk.

I have completely fallen in love with The Lochmore Legacy series with each story unearthing new facts surrounding mysteries of long ago with a clash of clans and a clash of hearts within each instalment.  The epilogue rounds off the series beautifully which left me feeling quite emotional and bereft.  Hats off to all four authors for a great concept for a historical romance series.

About the Author

Nicole first discovered romance novels hidden in her grandmother’s closet. Convinced hidden books must be better, Nicole greedily read them. It was only natural she should start writing them (but now not so secretly).
