The Determined Lord Hadleigh

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

I am so pleased to be involved in the Publication Day Push for The Determined Lord Hadleigh, the latest book by Virginia Heath.  The Determined Lord Hadleigh is a book four in The King’s Elite series, a regency romance series of four stories that can be read as standalone but to fully appreciate the stories as they progress forward I would highly recommend reading the books in the series in order (my reviews can be found by clicking the title):

The King’s Elite has been a fantastic, thrilling, evocative series from Virginia Heath and I think she’s saved the best till last.  I loved the bravado of our other King’s Elite but Hadleigh had the brains however, there was a vulnerability about him that totally won me over.

Lord Tristan Hadleigh is a barrister, well known for his meticulous and thorough questioning of witnesses in court.  Hadleigh works with The King’s Elite and has been working tirelessly behind the scenes putting the case forward to prosecute the Boss of the smuggling ring.  One of the witnesses to the smuggling gang evokes many emotions in Hadleigh, emotions that he has kept under lock and key for ten years.  For Penny Penhurst’s life under a controlling, vindictive, vile husband brings back many parallel traits to his own parents.  These traits he tried to intervene with and help his own mother but sadly to no avail tragedy was to strike and Hadleigh has felt nothing but guilt since and fears for the home he grew up in.

Hadleigh tries to help Penny Penhurst in a way that he couldn’t with his own flesh and blood but he goes about it the wrong way and puts even more fear into a young woman who has finally found the courage to speak out about the torrid few years of married life with a criminal.

Penny Penhurst has been married for three years and was unaware of the wrong doings her husband was involved in.  From the day she got married she knew she had made a grave mistake marrying but now feels trapped and her confidence has been shattered.  However, the gentle questioning by Hadleigh has given her the strength to speak out.  With this new found strength Penny wants to start her life again on her own merit but as Hadleigh starts meddling with his kindness Penny feels stifled and is afraid that all men will be like her husband.

Once Hadleigh learns about his mistake in helping Penny he changes tactics and asks for help from his fellow King’s Elite.  Penny proves to be of great help with the mission to gain enough evidence to put the Boss behind bars for good.  Once Hadleigh and Penny have reached a compromise with her new situation they start to form an unlikely friendship and soon realise their lives are quite similar.  Confidence between the pair grows and slowly the past hurt and fears are revealed.  Emotions have to be dealt with carefully to avoid the doors to their fears being completely closed.

Virginia Heath writes effortlessly addictive regency romance stories.  You can’t help but fall in love with the hero and heroine and Virginia Heath creates characters that bring out the best within themselves however much they may bicker.  Through the confused emotions and fears a heady romance is building but will it be too soon for the doors to Hadleigh and Penny’s heart to be opened?

A gorgeous finale to a fantastic series by Virginia Heath that was filled with drama, danger and plenty of romantic dalliances.

About the Author

When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Despite that, it still takes her forever to fall asleep.

Lost in the Highlands
Found by the Scottish Earl!
Part of The Lochmore Legacy: a Scottish castle through the ages! Far from her home in France, Marguerite Vallon escapes her arranged marriage to a man she despises. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

We return to the rugged and wild landscape of Scotland to Book 3 in The Lochmore Legacy series. To 1513 were the men were wilder than the land that they were borne from.

From the very first paragraph author Elisabeth Hobbes was setting a scene of a land that bore many battles and although Ewan Lochmore didn’t wear any physical scars from the recent battle at Flodden his heart had been shattered with the deaths of his father and brother. With a heart so leaden and full of grief he’s now on his way to Stirling Castle to learn of his fate now he is next in line to become Laird of the Lochmore Clan.

Ewan wasn’t like his father or brother he’d gone off to study law and was more in tune to using words to voice his opinion than a sword but now knew that he had to step up to the role of Laird.

Whilst at the castle Ewan comes across a young woman who looks very much a stranger in and amongst the other ladies of the court. A vision in her strange clothes but one he cannot forget and Ewan continues to bump into this young woman whilst at court.

Marguerite Vallon was a young Frenchwoman and this was her first visit to Scotland. The temperament of the men was quite startling to her including that of her soon-to-be husband Duncan McCrieff, a man much older than her. Marguerite had noticed the man looking at her earlier and her eyes are drawn to him now, however he appears a little different to most of the other men in the castle. Marguerite soon learns to find her fiancé is not to be trusted with her heart and she fears for her life and comes up with a dangerous plan to escape Duncan McCrieff’s clutches. An escape plan that somehow includes one of her fiancé’s rivals!

I loved this third instalment of The Lochmore Legacy by Elisabeth Hobbes and it’s my first introduction to her work and to a new period of historical romance. Elisabeth Hobbes words transported me to this rugged landscape of hearty, wild men with ease and I could feel the tension between the clansmen and also the chemistry that was fuelled with earthly desire. My heart was beating as loud as the battle cries as I was captivated by this romance between a young man thrust into the duties of Lairdship and a young woman lost in foreign lands who is afraid for her future.

I’m so looking forward to reading the final instalment in The Lochmore Legacy.  I would highly recommend reading all the books in the series in order as book one sets the scene to a centuries old mystery.  You can find my reviews for Book One here and Book Two here.

About the Author

Elisabeth grew up in York, where she spent her teenage years looking for a handsome Roman or Viking to sweep her off her feet.

She achieved her dream of becoming an author after finishing third in Harlequin’s SYTYCW contest 2013 and being offered a two-book contract. When she isn’t writing, she spends her time reading and is a pro at cooking while holding a book!

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

Unlaced by the Highland Duke is Book 2 in The Lochmore Legacy series.  The Lochmore Legacy is a series of four stories set in different historical eras around a castle in the Scottish highlands and a feud between rival clans.  Each story is written by a different historical romance author and Unlaced by the Highland Duke is written by Lara Temple.  Each story in the series can be read as a standalone but I would highly recommend reading all the books in the series to gain full enjoyment and appreciation of this gorgeous historical romance series.  You can catch up with my review of Book One here.

Unlaced by the Highland Duke is the story of Duke of Lochmore, Benneit, who is trying to forge a partnership and also help soften the feud with fellow Scotman McCleish.  Since the death of his wife Bella, the Duke has focused all his energies on his four year old son Jamie.  Benneit hopes to secure a future for Jamie so a partnership is essential.  Hiring his late wife’s cousin, Joane (Jo) to help look after Jamie until he marries brings many confused emotions to Benneit and Jo’s minds.

Jo is a widower herself and her first impressions of Benneit six years ago was of an aloof gentleman.  However, now she sees him with his son she can see a softer, almost vulnerable side to him.  Benneit is fiercely protection of his son Jamie and he also has a strong relationship with his help at the castle.  Jo has a wonderful way with children and she soon develops a lovely, warm, trusting relationship with Jamie and Jamie soon begins to show his love and loyalty to her.  Jo is a young woman with so much love, vibrancy and imagination and appears to know just how to appease this young boy who is feeling a little lost at the moment.

Lara Temple has written a gorgeous historical romance that is so charming and beautiful and then has an addictive, sensual side to the storyline.  With the stunning, rugged backdrop of the Scottish highlands The Lochmore Legacy continues to enthral me with it’s mystery, legends and beguiling romances.

The authors involved in The Lochmore Legacy have set up a facebook page all about the series so please pop on over and join in with the historical romance chat:

About the Author

Lara Temple writes strong, sexy regency romances about complex individuals who give no quarter but do so with plenty of passion. After moving around the world for her career as a financial analyst and business consultant she returned to her childhood love of making up stories, and was surprised to discover that other people don’t mind reading them.
She lives with her husband and two children who are very good about her taking over the kitchen table for her writing (so she can look out over the garden and dream while Oscar the dog keeps her feet warm by sitting on them as she works).
The Earl’s Irresistible Challenge (out December 2018) is the first in her Sinful Sinclair series. In May 2019 Unlaced by the Highland Duke, part of a four book series with three other Harlequin Mills & Boon authors will be released.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Catherine Tinley’s latest novel: The Earl’s Runaway Governess.

The Earl’s Runaway Governess was a delicious feast for the heart and soul.  I adored it and feel quite bereft now I’ve got to the end.

There’s currently a number of Regency Romance novelists who know just how to transport their readers into an era that is steeped with etiquette with society rules and regulations, scandalous rakes and dashingly handsome rogues and Catherine Tinley is one of these such authors who sets the scene and captures your heart with the characters and storyline.

I particularly liked this storyline of a young lady having no option but to flee her family home for fear of her own safety.  Marianne Grant’s life as she knew it for the last twenty years surrounded by love and comfortable wealth will be no more.  Still struggling with grief Marianne has to be strong and make a new life for herself.  A life on the other side of the social class, one were she has to be independent, work for a living and above all else hide her true identity otherwise the consequence could be devastating.

Securing a position of a governess for a recently widowed Lady and her twelve year old daughter Marianne, now Miss Bolton, has switched roles in a stately home.  However, keeping her alias secret proves difficult when she meets the new Earl of Kingswood and proprietor of the house.  Earl ‘Ash’ Kingswood has been bequeathed the home and estate and is at a loss how to run a vast estate like this, he’s also not sure how to run a home and cope with the emotional dramas from the women of the household.  Personalities soon clash between Marianne and the new Earl and the author has woven some great fun between these two characters as they learn to live with their new roles.

Catherine Tinley has packed so much into this story; we had a daring escape, a new beginning, new friendships, new hope but danger of the past rearing it’s ugly head was never far and Marianne felt the constant fear for her life.

A story that enthralled me, I was charmed by the characters and the strength in a young woman trying to overcome adversity.  The chivalry and romance that blossomed was befitting to the story and left me wanting more.
