Two families. One cancelled flight. And a last minute house swap…
Things get desperate for strangers Harriet and Sophie when they become stranded with their families in Heathrow’s Terminal 5. Each woman has her own reason for really really really needing the family holiday they’ve anticipated for months. But Iceland’s volcano has other plans for them. When their flights are cancelled, the families swap houses and discover that sometimes the best things in life happen close to home.
This ash cloud has a silver lining, even if no one can quite see it yet.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogger blast celebrating and promoting the launch of Michele Gorman’s latest novel: The Staycation.
I really enjoyed this new novel by Michele Gorman and it was so apt with the current situation of people up and down the country staying home, staying safe. I’ve always fancied a house swap but not sure I’d be brave enough, what’s home comforts for some could be the other person’s worst nightmare!
When two families are delayed at the airport waiting for flights to Italy to be re-opened due to an ash cloud in the air-zone they get chatting and realise they are both in the same boat. Harriet vaguely knows Sophie’s husband through work connections and the women soon open up a little about how much they need a break away. So they come up with a plan to still have a holiday by agreeing on a house swap. Harriet, James and their daughter Billie will move into Sophie, Dan and their two young children Katie and Oliver’s city dwelling in London, close to all the attractions in the capital. Sophie with her family will travel that little bit further and move into the Cotswold cottage belonging to Harriet and James.
Both Harriet and Sophie have complex personalities and it’s not until they arrive at their respective house swap that the ladies start to learn things about their own character traits. This two week break was intended as a much needed family and relationship time but as each day unfolds life for Harriet and Sophie becomes a little bit more tangled and by the end of the two weeks decisions and revelations are made. I loved both women and was enjoying this new experience with them.
The Staycation is such a fun romcom that is perfect escapism. .
