Welcome to Wychwood-on-Lea… a not-too-quaint village where frosty evenings, welcoming fires, and second chances will make this a Christmas you’ll never forget.
Anna Vere has escaped to the Cotswolds for Christmas to try to heal from her broken engagement and, far worse, her broken dreams. When her reserved room at a bed & breakfast is flooded, she takes up the offer of camping out in Willoughby Close, the converted stables of the nearby manor house… and is taken under the wing of sexy local carpenter Colin Heath.
What starts out as merely helping a neighbor in need turns into far more as Colin and Anna share a surprisingly intense and emotional connection, weaving their own Christmas magic as they spend the holiday together. But Anna has a secret she’s scared to reveal, something that could destroy the fragile bond they’ve just created, and Colin knows she’s only in England for a short time. Can these two sudden soul mates risk their hearts for a love that has yet to be tried and tested?
Get swept away by this poignant and heartwarming story, set in beautiful Wychwood-on-Lea, in the English Cotswolds. And look forward to four more books set in Willoughby Close, where everyday miracles and happily-ever-afters are guaranteed.
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book and would like to thank the author for this.
A Cotswold Christmas is book 1 in the Willoughby Close series. Willoughby Close is a new series written by Kate Hewitt and it is set in a lovely Cotswold village.
I adored this story and am so happy that it’s the start of a new series by Kate Hewitt. A Cotswold Christmas is also my first introduction to Kate Hewitt’s work but after I’d read the first few pages I’d felt like I was reading a book with friends. Kate’s writing style is very warm and comforting, her characters are very relatable and easy to love. I love a story set in the countryside and the Cotswolds shows England in it’s glory and with the raw, natural beauty emanating from crisp wintry mornings you can’t help but admire the setting of this novel even more.
Anna is an American escaping from her life in the states and chooses the Cotswolds as her ideal spot to unwind and refresh her mind, body and soul from the hurt she’s felt recently. She didn’t expect her well thought out plans to be scuppered by a flood in the BnB she chose. However, a local knight (aka builder) named Colin came to her rescue and offered her shelter through the festive season. This shelter wasn’t 5* accommodation and was rather unconventional. We follow Anna during her stay in the Cotswolds healing her soul and possibly her heart.
This story had everything you need to escape the dark, cold nights of winter that seem to be fast approaching. Idyllic locations that you instantly want to vacate to, characters to fall in love with and a storyline to warm your hearts. It felt like devouring the first mince pie of the season and then greedily wanting more when you’d finished. I can’t wait for more from Willoughby Close and Kate Hewitt. 5/5*
