Mimi isn’t looking for love when she spends a weekend in Goosebrook, the Cotswolds village her dad has moved to. And her first encounter with Cal, who lives there too, is nothing like a scene in a romantic movie – although she can’t help noticing how charismatic he is. But Cal’s in no position to be any more than a friend, and Mimi heads back to her busy London life.
When they meet again four years later, it’s still not to be. Cal is focusing on his family, and Mimi on her career. Then Cal dives into a potentially perfect new romance whilst Mimi’s busy fixing other people’s relationships.
It seems as if something, or someone else, always gets in their way. Will it ever be the right time for both of them?

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Jill Mansell’s latest novel: Maybe This Time.

When you pick up a Jill Mansell novel you know you’re heart and soul are in safe hands and that the author’s words will take you on a wonderful journey.

Maybe This Time is Jill Mansell’s 30th novel (I hope I’ve got this correct) and it has all the well loved trademarks from all her other stories.  I fell in love with our leading lady, Mimi, straight away and could picture this young woman travelling from London to the Cotswolds to visit her father and his partner.  Her first visit to the Cotswolds was going to be the start of a journey for Mimi.  A journey that would break her heart but bit by bit it would slowly mend.

Along the way we meet some fabulous characters including Cal, who’s first encounter with Mimi is quite comical.  Mimi has a habit of being accident prone especially when she’s in the vicinity of Cal and she also jumps to conclusions.

Over the years of visiting the Cotswolds Mimi and Cal have continued to bump into each other and a friendship has blossomed.  There’s not only Cal that has welcomed Mimi to this idyllic village in the Cotswolds; we have bubbly Lois, Paddy the womanising charmer and Cal’s six year old daughter Cora who have all won a place in Mimi’s heart.  When life throws it’s darkest hours the villagers come together to pick up the pieces.

This story was filled with so much warmth and joy that emanated from the characters and the beautiful setting of the Cotswolds village.  Through the tears of life hope is evident giving us a heartfelt, beautiful story of friendship, laughter and love.

When you open up your home and your heart …

Rowan Forrester has it all – the happy marriage, the adorable dog, the good friends, the promising business and even the dream home after she and her husband Tom win a stunning but slightly dilapidated Georgian townhouse in London at auction.

But in the blink of an eye, Rowan’s picture-perfect life comes crashing down around her and she is faced with the prospect of having to start again.

To make ends meet she begins a search for housemates, and in doing so opens the door to new friends and new beginnings. But could she be opening the door to new heartbreak too?

Happy Publication Day to Angela Barton, I am so pleased to be able to share with you all an excerpt from Chapter 1.

April’s unexpected heat-haze danced as it levitated above broiled pavements. Shiny black slugs of melted tarmac dribbled into gutters, smelling as sickly-sweet as pineapple chunks. The news channels were proclaiming that it was going to be the hottest spring on record for the past seventeen years and the damp skin on Rowan’s back was testimony to that fact.

Rowan and her husband, Tom, were in Clapham, standing across the road from Magnolia House and looking up at it in disbelief. It was a neglected and weather-worn building and its flaking central front door didn’t bode well for the rest of the house. The sash windows looked rotten where paint had peeled and rain had drenched the exposed wood. The low parapet that was built around the edge of the roof was crumbling in parts and missing in others. Its only redeeming feature was a mature magnolia tree standing in the diminutive front garden.

Rowan unfolded the page from the newspaper that Tom had shown her at breakfast the previous morning and, after great excitement, they’d decided to drive to London for a viewing.

‘It says here,’ Rowan read, ‘elegant semi-detached Georgian town house with basement accommodation. In need of some modernisation to bring it back to its former glory. Full of original features. Pretty courtyard to the rear of the property. Dated decor requiring attention throughout.’

‘Dated! I think they mean delapi-dated,’ said Tom, rubbing the stubble on his chin. It was a nervous habit he’d developed since recently establishing his own photographic business, The Wider Picture.

Nearby church bells chimed half past the hour as the estate agent fidgeted impatiently next to the front steps.

‘Do you still want to take a look?’ asked Rowan.

Tom pulled a face and shrugged. ‘We’re here, I suppose,’ he said, taking her hand and pulling her across the road.

Welcome to Love Heart Lane…
When Flick Simons returns to the small village of Heartcross she only expected to stay for a few days. The white-washed cottages of Love Heart Lane might be her home, but the place holds too many painful memories, and of one man in particular – Fergus Campbell.
When a winter storm sweeps in, the only bridge connecting the village to the main land is swept away! As the villagers pull together, Flick finds herself welcomed back by the friends she once left behind. And as the snow begins to melt, maybe there is a chance that Fergus’s heart will thaw too…

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Christie Barlow’s latest novel: Love Heart Lane.

Yay, I’ve finally read one of Christie Barlow’s stories. I’ve read so many great reviews of Christie’s books and I have purchased books following these reviews but I’ve not had the chance yet to read. However, I think I’ve started with a good one! Love Heart Lane was just perfect, it gave me cosy feels but it had so much depth to the story and characters. I didn’t want the story to end as I felt like I’d moved in to this Scottish Highlands village and that the characters were my friends. I’m now feeling bereft but excited and chuffed to learn that there will be more from Christie Barlow and the villagers we’ve grown to love with another story in the series due in the summer.

Felicity (Flick) Simons has been living and working in London for the last eight years after fleeing her home, friends and loved ones back in the Scottish Highlands village, Heartcross. The reason Flick fled was so tragic and very personal and at the time Flick felt like she had no option but to leave. It’s taken the death of her dear Grandmother for Flick to make the trip back up north and face the repercussions of her actions of eight years ago. Flick’s mother, Rona, is thrilled to have her daughter back home even under the saddest of circumstances but not everyone in the village welcome her back with open arms.

Fergus Campbell was Flick’s childhood sweetheart and when Flick upped and left eight years ago she crushed his heart and also their dreams of a future together. Now after so long Fergus is non too pleased to see Flick back in the village and the pain from long ago is still quite raw.

This is a story of friendship, of a community pulling together and of a love that suffered many scars but held on to a flicker of a flame that would never lose it’s glow. I devoured this story and wanted more.

If you can’t wait for book two in the series it is now available to pre-order: https://amzn.to/2AW6Gs8

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Lara Temple’s latest novel: The Earl’s Irresistible Challenge.

Ohh this was such a treat of a read, a new series from one of the current greats in Regency Romance, Lara Temple.  The Earl’s Irresistible Challenge is book one in The Sinful Sinclair’s series and is the story of Lord Lucas Sinclair, the eldest of the Sinclair children.

The Sinclair’s have a well known reputation amongst the ‘ton’, however it’s a reputation that was earned by their grandfather but now all Sinclair’s have been tarnished with the same brush.  When Lucas was summoned by a young woman from Yorkshire of details of a wrong doing he felt exasperated and thought the plight by Miss Olivia Silverdale was nothing but a ‘wild-goose chase’.  But his interest peaked slightly by this rather unusual young lady who was very sure of her story and was hellbent on finding the truth.

I felt the story held a little dark atmosphere during the opening chapters with the mystery unfolding and the quest to unearth the truth.  What Olivia and Lucas hadn’t expected was the building chemistry between them.  However, they were both very wary of their feelings and Lucas was almost aghast to his ‘mawkish’ feelings.

Lara Temple has created a great Regency romp filled with atmosphere from the intensity of the challenge and also the emotional wars bubbling on the surface.  Olivia and Lucas were a great crime busting duo.  I loved it all and felt myself swooning for this Sinclair.  I’m so looking forward to more from The Sinful Sinclair’s.

I particularly enjoyed this quote from the novel:

“The girl was as mistrustful as he, and just as scared of feeling.  She would not love easily, but when she did …”

About the Author

the earls - profile picLara Temple writes strong, sexy regency romances about complex individuals who give no quarter but do so with plenty of passion. After moving around the world for her career as a financial analyst and business consultant she returned to her childhood love of making up stories, and was surprised to discover that other people don’t mind reading them.

She lives with her husband and two children who are very good about her taking over the kitchen table for her writing (so she can look out over the garden and dream while Oscar the dog keeps her feet warm by sitting on them as she works).

The Earl’s Irresistible Challenge (out December 2018) is the first in her Sinful Sinclair series. In May 2019 Unlaced by the Highland Duke, part of a four book series with three other Harlequin Mills & Boon authors will be released.

It’s never too late for a second chance at love in this uplifting and warm-hearted romance.
It’s never too late to find love…
When Juliet Scott falls for ruggedly handsome Pete while away travelling, she never imagines how different her life will be to that of her sister, successful and beautiful model Hero. Based on a cattle station in the vast Australian Outback, Juliet’s life is now simple, down-to earth and honest, and the perfect antidote to the chaotic celebrity lifestyle that Hero leads in the UK.
With her striking brunette hair, perfect posture, and mesmerising green eyes, it is no wonder Hero has come so far in such a superficial industry. But when tragedy strikes, Hero finds herself in the arms of her sister, recuperating from a terrible accident on the other side of the world.
With her modelling career in tatters, and her scars more than just skin deep, Juliet worries that Hero will hide behind the mask she wears forever. But does Australia have something, or someone, to offer that London never could?

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting Maxine Morrey’s latest novel: Second Chance at the Ranch.

I love it when you try a new author and her story makes your heart sing.  I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to pick up and read a book by Maxine Morrey but now I have read Second Chance at the Ranch I’ll be checking out future releases and also the back catalogue of this author.

Maxine Morrey won me over with her writing.  I loved the depth of the story surrounding Hero Scott, international top model.  Hero’s been living in the public eye for over 15 years.  A glamorous life on the surface but the modelling world isn’t all jet-set and diamonds, it can be very shallow and lonely.  Hero trusted a small handful of people to be let into her world, which included her older sister, Juliet.  Hero is feeling kind of sad but excited and pleased for Juliet who is about to be married to Pete, a sheep farmer in Australia.  A new life beckons for Juliet and Hero will be sad to see her move away from London.

Hero is welcomed with open arms to the Webster family in Australia but there is one member who is a little wary of this beautiful woman and that is Nick, Pete’s younger brother.

Nick is the poster boy for Australian farming.  He is rugged and handsome and not afraid of hard work.  However, this enigma of a woman in Hero Scott confuses him; she’s beautiful and perfect to look at but there is a vulnerability about her.  Nick is on a mission to crack the shell of protection that Hero has built around her.

Hero has built this shell of protection to shield her emotions as she is in fear of the past repeating itself.  When she does let her barriers down it is so heart-breaking to hear however more heartache is to come for Hero and she has many, many challenges to overcome.

I adored learning about the depths within the characters history and how this shaped them to who they are now.  The building chemistry between Hero and Nick was beautiful and quite tender and took this rugged man by surprise.  I loved this story and I wanted more!

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogblitz celebrating and promoting the launch of Virginia Heath’s latest novel:  The Uncompromising Lord Flint.

Mon dieu, soyez toujours mon coeur qui bat!

Oh wow, what an explosive ending to a great read. Yet again author Virginia Heath has treated her readers to a rollercoaster of a ride with a dramatic, sexy, thrilling and utterly romantic regency romp.

The Uncompromising Lord Flint is book two in the King’s Elite series and as I mentioned in my review for book one in the series; The Mysterious Lord Millcroft, the King’s Elite are very like a 19th century MI5 and each of the ‘Invisibles’ are reminiscent to James Bond. However, no special gadgets from Q for these men but bravery, cunning, calm individuals with highly intelligent strategic qualities.

Lord Flint’s latest mission is to safely escort a prisoner from France to London awaiting the trial for treason and the indirect involvement of murder. Lady Jessimina (Jess) Fane was a very stubborn young woman refusing to divulge any information regarding the smuggling ring and she was prepared to face her punishment. However, the journey from France to London would be thwart with danger as the smugglers would be close on their tail to try and kidnap Jess to return her to France.

Lord Flint is normally unflappable but Jess has stirred emotions in him that he thought he was immune to. Fighting with his head and his heart on whether to believe Jess’s innocence the road to London was to be met with many challenges culminating in a battle that brought danger to his own family.

Virginia Heath’s writing style is effortless and she immerses the readers to a different time zone with etiquette and society, rakes and rascals. I love the banter she creates with her leading lady and gentleman which brings charm and fun to the storyline. I adored this story; it was dangerous, seductive and the book was unputdownable. Virginia Heath has given me a thirst for Regency Romance.

About the Author

virginia heathWhen Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Despite that, it still takes her forever to fall asleep.

I am so pleased to be involved in the blogtour celebrating and promoting the launch of Jenni Keer’s debut novel: The Hopes and Dreams of Lucy Baker.  I have to hold my hand up and admit that I was totally drawn to this novel by the cover, the black cat drew me in to all the prettiness.  I also love a story with characters from different ages as they bring a dynamic to the storyline with the wise of the mature generation and the effervescence of the younger.

This is a story about two socially awkward souls who are given a helping hand in love by a vivacious elderly neighbour and a scrappy looking black cat.  A neighbour who all her life has practised in the art of apothecary using natural ingredients and who also believes in mystical powers.

I loved the relationship that Lucy had with her elderly neighbour Brenda.  Brenda was a dream of a character, she had so much joy from her life and her history was fascinating.  I also enjoyed reading about the natural potions and spells she believed were the answer to friend’s and neighbour’s prayers and ailments.  Lucy was a quiet soul who felt under-shadowed by her elder sister, her mother was constantly belittling her.  Lucy stuck with her joys in life which were her friendship with Brenda, her knitting (especially the celebrity-like dolls) and her job working at the toy wholesalers.  When a new neighbour moves in who appears to be more socially awkward than Lucy, Brenda hatches out a plan to help Lucy and George become friends.

The Hopes and Dreams of Lucy Baker is an utterly charming story that will entrance and entertain you.  It was magical, romantic and full of fun.  I adored it and it left me thoughtful, bewitched and a little emotional.  I am so looking forward to more from Jenni Keer.

On a doomed flight home from New York, Sean Allister is heading for a destination and a destiny far beyond his ordinary life. Hell is breaking loose in Heaven and the consequences for humankind and angels could be catastrophic. With faith and hope at risk of being destroyed, it seems secrets, bureaucracy and fear are not the sole preserve of the living. With Sean, we see the return of the warm-hearted, whisky-swilling Crowley, now promoted to Spiritual Guide. Can this odd couple be the only hope to bring balance to Heaven and Earth as the battle for power drags them into a struggle that even the archangels are unprepared for?

purple angel wingsI voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. All opinions are my own and no content may be copied. However, authors and publishers may use elements of my reviews for quotes.

I don’t read many paranormal/spiritual contemporary fiction novels but I took a chance on Estelle Maher’s debut novel, Grace and the Ghost, back in June 2017 and I was pleasantly surprised.  I was also thrilled that I took this chance to open my eyes and fill my heart with a new genre and author book love.

Angel’s Rebellion is the sequel to Grace and the Ghost (you can find my review for this novel here), I would thoroughly recommend reading Grace and the Ghost prior to reading Angel’s Rebellion to get the full reading experience and enjoyment of the story.

Once again author Estelle Maher drew me into her storyline and in particular the characters.  The characters are written with such warmth that you instantly feel a connection with them.  I fell in love with Sean back in Grace and the Ghost and he has the star role in Angel’s Rebellion and he justifiably deserved the role.

From the action and drama in the first chapter, which leaves you with thoughts of ‘what if’ you are given the groundworks to a storyline were life, fate and a helping hand from a spiritual guide have a purposeful journey.  Along the way to Sean’s destiny he has a little fun and meets up with some great new characters that will have a lasting effect on his life.

Whilst reading the novel I could sense an important event was imminent but my emotions were not fully prepared so when it did arrive I was so consumed with emotion I needed to take a breather.

Angel’s Rebellion is a very unique story, a story of humankind, a story of love, life and spirituality.  Author Estelle Maher has a great sense of humour and has woven this beautifully within the novel.  Storytelling with a difference that will break your heart but will leave it with a satisfied warmth at the end.

About the Author

Estelle Maher was born in the heart of Liverpool, England. After spending her teens in rural Dorset, she returned to the North of England and now resides in Wirral with her husband, 2 children and 2 dogs.
Her career has been varied, working in shipping, insurance and finance. But in her spare time, she’s quite at home with a paint brush upcycling furniture. She also writes a blog in her spare time, The Secret Diary of A Middle Aged Woman, a humorous snapshot of random thoughts.
Estelle has been writing on and off for a number of years and writing the blog was her first step in writing for an audience that was wider than her and her husband.
However, throughout her life, Estelle has experienced lots of ‘inexplicable moments’ which inspired her first debut novel, Grace & The Ghost.
